CQC Rating GoodPatient Participation Group (PPG)

A Patient Participation Group (PPG) is a selection of patients and practice staff who meet at regular intervals to decide ways of making a positive contribution to the services and facilities offered by the practice to the patients. PPG’s have become increasingly common in England and Wales over the last few years. Currently, most activity of PPGs is focussed in with Primary Care Networks. The Primary Care Network is a collection of local Practices that have come together to work collaboratively for the local practices.
The activities of PPGs can vary because they develop to meet local need. Typical activities might include:
- Providing feedback from patients
- Health promotion
- Support for patients
- Improving facilities
- Information
- Social activities
Whilst PPG’s exist to improve the experience of patients using the practice, they are not intended to be a complaint gatherer or a ‘forum for moaners’. Other mechanisms such as Healthwatch exist for patients to raise issues about the medical treatment they receive. Whilst PPG members will be able to report their own experiences, this needs to be balanced by a responsibility to represent views from the wider patient group, and fair allocation of energy to the various other functions of PPG.
If you would like to join the PPG, or learn more about its work you can contact the group by using our secure online form or by post at the surgery address (please clearly mark the envelope FAO the PPG).
Please note - the PPG will not share your identity with the practice staff if you prefer us not to, but we will need these details to correspond with you.
